Yun (ユン) is a Hunter and a descendant of one of the Eight Warriors who aided Torgal during the founding of New Yogo. The name Yun is an alias meaning "four" in Yogoese.

Overview[]

In the anime, Yun is one of the four Hunters initially sent to retrieve Prince Chagum when he is taken from the Imperial Palace. He and Zen are quickly defeated by Balsa, with Yun taking a blow to his nose that results in a scar across the middle of his face. In the manga, he is also the one who speaks with the vendor and figures out that Balsa is taking Chagum across the mountains (this role is filled by Mon in the anime and Jin in the book). In the novel, Yun is badly wounded in the leg by the Rarunga and does not participate in the battle against it, unlike in the anime.

Yun's most notable skill is a superb photographic memory, as he was able to skim through one of Toya's record books and completely memorize the contents within almost no time, then reproduce it in entirety on a scroll in the Hunters' hideout. The skill is particularly indicative of the Hunters' primary purpose as information gatherers rather than warriors or assassins. In combat, he wields two swords simultaneously instead of one.

In Guardian of the Dream, Yun accompanies Chagum, Shuga, and Zen to the Royal Mountain Villa to help save Tanda and the First Queen from the Flower which feeds on people's dreams - and to ensure that Chagum returns to the palace afterwards. He expresses resentment towards Balsa and stops Chagum from sitting on the ground like a commoner, instead laying out a blanket for the prince to sit on. While fighting Tanda's demonic form, he is prevented from delivering a death blow by Balsa, who jumps in the way of his sword and is wounded in the shoulder.

In Traveler of the Blue Road, Yun is one of two Hunters sent to escort Prince Chagum on a diplomatic mission to Sangal. He is ordered to assassinate Chagum by the Mikado and attempts to smother the prince while Chagum is sleeping, but is stopped by Jin. Yun is left behind, in a Sangalese prison, when the others return to New Yogo, and his ultimate fate is never given.

Yun also appears in the Jin gaiden prequel manga, where he is one of the four Hunters who run to rescue Mayuna from Ryoshuna's mercenaries. When Jin and Hyoku go to assassinate the head of Yuguraku house, Yun drugs the members of the household to keep them from interfering - unbeknownst to the boys. He is an adult at the time of the prequel, but his age is unknown. His real name is never given.

Trivia[]

  • He is unmarried at the time of the anime, according to the official fanbook.
