Moribito II: Guardian of the Darkness (闇の守り人, Yami no Moribito) is the second novel in the Moribito series written by Nahoko Uehashi.

Plot Introduction

For many years, through countless fights, Balsa has survived.

The evil King Rogsam tried to kill her when she was only six. Eight assassins pursued her in the long flight that followed. But her mentor, Jiguro, protected her until his death, and then Balsa became a bodyguard herself, helping other people survive the challenges they face.

After fighting the terrible monster Rarunga and saved the Crown Prince Chagum, Balsa is returning to her native Kanbal to restore the Jiguro's name and hopes to see Jiguro's family and her own for the first time in years. But what should be a simple visit of truth and reconciliation becomes a fight for her life when she learns that King Rogsam framed Jiguro for the deaths of the eight assassins - as well as a crime that threatens the very existence of Kanbal. With the help of two Kanbalese children, Balsa must unwind the conspiracy surrounding Jiguro and the mystery of the Guardians of Darkness, before it's too late.

With a conspiracy of lies surrounding Jiguro — a conspiracy that reaches as high as the royal family and as deep as Jiguro's own brothers, and the once-a-generation luisha ceremony approaching, when the King receives the sacred stone essential to the kingdom's wellbeing, Balsa must stop the lies before the brothers fight the Guardian of the Darkness and bring ruin to all of Kanbal.
